Our Story
Inception
Good Specs co-founders James and Christian both knew the bar market left something to be desired; for some reason, every bar with high-protein content had at least one undesirable ingredient, while those prioritizing clean formulations were underwhelming in the protein department. Increasingly passionate about the perceived problem, they searched stores for something good to no avail, and their early market research led them to realize a surprisingly large number of folks shared a similar frustration. In Spring of 2023, the two roommates decided to take a crack at creating a solution.
Process
The two wellness enthusiasts set out to create a high-protein bar for the ingredient-conscious consumer. In their own words, something with “Good Specs”; constructed thoughtfully and mindfully, to high-standards in every sense, from the ingredients to the macronutrients. Completely and undeniably Good throughout. Craveable, yet satisfying, and energizing. Countless hours of experimentation later, the recipe began to take shape, and Good Specs was born.
Now
Overjoyed with their creation, something that finally bridged the gap between high-protein and clean ingredients, the founders eagerly shared samples from their home kitchen with anyone willing to try. Now inspired and determined to share GSP with the world, J+C took to scaling the operation. Good Specs Protein bars are still produced by hand (with love), but now in the commercial kitchen at The Hatchery on Chicago’s West Side.
